Critical Thinking with Radu Atanasiu

February 16

Critical Thinking is the process of independently analyzing, synthesizing and evaluating information as a guide to behavior and beliefs. The word “critical” does not mean to criticize, it means to discern sharply and unbiased. Critical thinking is a vital human feature, and it functions better when educated. Although most of us think critically every day without an educated ground, and some of us do so successfully, the two components of critical thinking (namely – the capacity and the inclination to find truth) can improve after a structured approach.

This course aims to train in all students the capacity to analyze complex arguments, to provide students with the tools and experience to recognize and dissect various types of reasoning, and to at least begin to explore the philosophical concept of “truth”.

Also, this course aims to awaken in students the inclination to search for truth in places they haven`t done so before, for instance in generally accepted theories, but also in their own assumptions and beliefs.
